Kikwete invites Angola to drill for oil
DAR ES SELAM, Tanzania- The president of Tanzania, Jakaya
Kikwete, has invited Angola to take part in oil prospecting
projects underway in his country, ensuring that Luanda would
benefit if oil is found.
Kikwete, who arrived in Luanda yesterday at the beginning
of the afternoon for an official visit lasting some 24 hours,
said that Angola ‘is a giant in the oil industry,’
while his country, ‘is still prospecting.’
According to the Tanzanian president, the potential Angolan
cooperation in this area, ‘would not be aid’ as
‘if oil is found’ a sharing and production agreement
would be signed by the two countries.
In his speech, Kikwete said that his visit to Luanda was to
analyze the possibilities of ‘increasing economic cooperation’
on a bilateral level, but will also make it possible for Tanzania
to learn from Angola’s experience in this area.
After the ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the Tanzanian
president went to the National Assembly where he gave a speech
to a plenary session of parliament especially called up to
receive him.
Kikwete’s visit concluded with a meeting with Angolan
prime minister, Fernando Dias dos Santos ‘Nando’
and an official dinner given by president José Eduardo
dos Santos.
