ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia- Organisers of The Millennium Festival
of Beauty announced that over 3500 “Judges” will be
specially invited to vote for the finalist of Miss Millennium
Queen and Miss Millennium Teen pageants next week, to give people
a say in the selection of the Ethiopian Queens of the New Millennium.
A press release sent by the organisers informed that on this ‘first
of it is kind’ for an Ethiopia beauty Pageant, over 3500
Ethiopians in the Diaspora will be emailed links to the website
featuring the finalists and be invited to vote online for “Miss
Photogenic” the top five delegates from this online vote
will then automatically receive bonus point that can make them
enter the top 10 contenders of each contest.
In an unprecedented move and another first for a beauty pageant
in Ethiopia, Six African National beauty Queens are expected to
judge both contests and four of them are Miss Tourism Sudan, Miss
Tourism Dr Congo, Miss Tourism Republic of Congo and Miss Tourism
Zambia. The organisers said that the beauty queens were recently
in Addis Ababa under the sponsorship of the Ethiopian life foundation
on their way to China and met with the 36 delegates, observed
their preparations and will be formally assessing them shortly
on their return form a trip to China.
In another first for Ethiopia, the organisers have published a
special magazine for the show which details the programme of events
and the history of the pageant over the last five years, in a
full colour glossy magazine. The organisers stated that the main
aim of the magazine is to further demonstrate its serious commitment
to the beauty industry in Ethiopia. The magazine entitled “Miss
Ethiopia magazine”, features Ferehiyewot Abebe, the first
Ethiopian to go to Miss Universe on the cover and future editions
will be published quarterly to give young Ethiopians both at home
and in the Diaspora a chance to read first hand the often untold
stories of pageant’s in Ethiopia, and what happens to the
goodwill ambassadors when they go out to international events.
Years after the previous plan this year is also expected to feature
a “Mr. Millennium” contest albeit a bit later on in
the year but still in time for the planned special International
beauty contest scheduled for Addis Ababa in early September which
will feature over 50 countries. •
