ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Directed by Roman Ayele, written by Serawit
Fikre a comedy film “Sekaramu Posta”, The drunk Mail,
was released Wednesday of this week in the presence of hundreds
of movie watchers at the Addis Ababa Theater and Cultural Center.
The story of Sekaramu Posta revolves around a young man who teasingly
pulls out a mail from a motor postal delivery and came to know
that the post was carrying a message from a young desperate woman.
Negligently loosing the address from the post, he finds himself
guilty of not letting her have the help she was looking for from
her brother who lives abroad. To clear his conscious this character
goes to the countryside where she was hiding in despair after
she found out that her lover was HIV positive.
Having the death of one’s lover similar to the Ethiopian
love novel Fikir Eskemekabir [Love unto the Uncrypt], and a happy
ending with a cunning resemblance to the Ethiopian film Kezkaza
Wolafen this film has a mixture of tragedy and happy ending at
the same time.
The famous actor Shewaferahu Desalegn is the co-director in this
film, the Stand-up comedy competition top three place winner Temesgen
Melaku, a prominent actress Almaz Haile have also acted in the
film.
The film has incorporated over one hundred extras and ten major
actors in it.
The 11th Hour film star, Solomon Bogale and the musician/actor
Abeba Desalegn are the major actors in this film that took a little
over a year to make Sponsored by Christian Relief and Development
Agency, Serawit Multimedia Production is the producer of this
film, which had an original budget of 380,000 Birr [43,000 USD
; 1 USD= ~8.83 birr] but has exceeded 400,000 Birr all in all.
Next to Sara, Sekaramu Posta is one of the very few Ethiopian
female directed films. •
