stages Millennium Fashion Gala

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Africa Mosaique a company founded
by former Ethiopian model Anna Getaneh, has its third fashion
extravaganza at the Sheraton Addis Monday of this week.
The show that presented international as well as local designers
and models had a diverse feeling than its previous shows. A fundraiser
for the Ethiopian Children Fund (ECF), the Millennium Gala also
had drawn a huge gathering. Models from South Africa, Tanzania
Kenya and Ethiopia took part in the show last Monday where world
famous and gifted local designers took part. The show this week
was one of the few that staged a jewelry exhibition by Dani Leone.
The matured pioneer Ethiopian designer Tsion Tibebe’s Collection
was the opening of the catwalks. Habte Selassie Scarves followed
later only to be preceded by the world famous Ethiopian Wedding
designer Amsale. Newcomers Ras Kassa, Helen Asrat and Yodit Tibebu
also presented their magnificent collections. The foreign designers
that have chosen Ethiopia to be their production ground, Arnold
Haas that is known for his Wubet handbag collection, and Cathy
Marty known for her Sabahar collection were also among the local
participants.
The matured local contemporary designers Gigi Ethiopia and Paradise
fashion were also the stars that got laud cheers. Alphadi, Finale
and Sun Goddess are the international brands that got overwhelming
response from the crowd.
“For the Millennium Collection we have brought together
a group of designers and artists from the emerging to the established,
from the local to the international, from the expatriate community
to the Diaspora, and the early visionaries who pave the way”,
Anna said at the opening.
T-shirts with the African Mosaique logo were on sale outside the
Sheraton and the organizers stated that the entire proceeds collected
from the event would go to the ECF. ECF, is a non-governmental
organization dedicated to helping those most vulnerable and least
able to help themselves –primarily children without parents.
“The proceeds of this event will continue to benefit ECF
Village, which has been operational for close to 10 years. Today
ECF provides education, health, care and nutrition to 30 destitute
and highly venerable children.”
