Former beauty queen to star in film ‘About Love’

By Alemayehu Seife Selassie

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Miss Ethiopia 2007 Amleset Muchi will appear in her film, Sile Fekir [About Love] at the end of March. The beauty queen turned film actress previously starred in Seifu Fantahun’s Yifelegal [Wanted]. But in her upcoming film, she has taken the entirely different role of an honest lover.
Amleset wrote Sele Fekir herself, and her film company, Maya Films, produced it under the direction of Yonas Birhane. The renowned actor Alemayehu Tadesse also appears alongside Amleset, with Sibuh Paulos and Meron Teshome as supporting actors in this romantic film.

Tadesse Alemayehu plays Amleset’s piano player in the film, while Sibuh takes the role of Mintesinot, her jealous lover. Sibuh has also taken the leading character’s role in the film Camparada, and in real life, he is an engineering graduate from the Mekele University.
The former beauty queen took the lion’s share in this film – in addition to her acting, writing and producing, she also took the role of the film’s art director.

Amleset told SSI this week that the film has took two years to complete and a total of 500,000 birr. Amleset states that she was given a lot of support in producing this film.
Director Yonas Birhane was also responsible for directing the egomaniac jealous lover film “Hermela,” and the thriller “Yemoriam Midir.” Yonas’s film production company, Ethio Films Production, has given Amleset a fair deal. She explains, “Yonas believed in my film, and the original deal was for me to give him his payment when I finished and screened the film. But in the meantime, I found sponsors and was able to pay him.”
BGI, Adika, Sami Mobile, Mono, Ab Get and Studio Net are the sponsors of Sile Fekir.
Sile Fekir will have its first premier on March 26 at Matti Cinema, where invited guests and interested viewers can see it.
