ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian parliament on Tuesday stripped a judge from his official title of Judge after being found guilty in corruption.
The Ethiopian People House of Representatives’ Law and administration affairs standing committee on Thursday told parliament that Dagnet Mekonen has been removed from his position because he was found guilty of being involved in corruption by court of law.

But the standing committee did not give any details to what kind of corruption the judge was involved in.
After being found guilty with the charge, the judge was sentenced for eight years of imprisonment. Even though Dagnet had appealed to the higher court he was found guilty as charged and the decision was upheld.
Deputy Chairperson of the standing committee, Fantaye Gezahegn said, after looking at the decision made by the court it has been decided that Dagnet should be disqualified from his title as judge.
