Kulmiye party concludes 2nd Congress meeting in preparation of upcoming elections
-Elects leaders for next four years

HARGEISA, Somaliland – Kulmiye the biggest opposition party in Somaliland next to the ruling party (UDUB) in terms of politics held its second congress for three days at Ambassador Hotel this week.
The congress brought together some 503 delegates who flew from all around the world, Europe, Asia, America and all the regions of Somaliland. Chairperson of Kulmiye Mr. Silaanyo in his opening speech said that the congress was extremely sensitive and a lot of people were evaluating on the conduct of the meeting in regards to the various problems the Kulmiye party was facing.

Previous Kulmiye chairman Mr. Ahmed Mohamoud Silaanyo who had run against current president Dahir Rayaale Kahin for the presidential post during the last elections opened the second congress ceremony by thanking all the delegates from all around the world with respect and even spent their own money to invest and be present this congress.

“ I would like to remind you all said Mr. Silaanyo since we officially register and became member of the three political parties of Somaliland 24th December of 2002, and we have attended the free elections of local governments, presidency and the parliamentary elections, which we have won to have the first deputy speaker and the second deputy speaker of the parliament, we are willing this term to encourage and do some thing about free enterprise, and added his political speech in the freedom of expression is choked and confronted with stiff jail sentence and prison abuse, The present government’s wall of secrecy has created cynicism and distrust in the society with its government, he campaigned to hook the minds of the present delegates by keeping promises and said if I happen to be the president of Somaliland my party Kulmiye will let you have transparent government that will be held accountable for its actions. This administration bends the judiciary system to it’s with, Somali Landers of an honest Judiciary system that will observe due process. The present government has paralyzed the job of the Parliament by unilateral decisions and by ignoring any reminders of constitutional violations, to respect and work with all government institutions for the common good of citizens and preserving the dignity of the country.
This administration has trampled on the constitution, to uphold the constitution and guard constitutional rights. This administration has suffocated the media. In fact it has made it illegal to open any radio stations including educational radios except the state run radio to air in Somaliland,” said Silaanyo The congress concluded its third day by electing again the same previous chairman Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Silaanyo, and his deputy Mr. Muse Biihi Abdi and chose three deputy’s of the party, at the conclusion Mr. Silanyo thanked all the delegates again and mentioned in they will hold their executive meeting in a month’s time which they will elect their president and vice president candidates.
