Somaliland’s politics reach momentum of election campaign
By. Moha Dahir Farah Jirreh
HARGEISA, Somaliland- Somaliland‘s upcoming elections are about to take place. Only three political parties representing a population of 3.6 million people are very keen to finalize the hot debates and fulfilling their own long term wishes of leading the country. Everyone tries hard to be the next leader of Somaliland. The election campaign starts this week officially. The citizens are involved in current politics, so it seems they ignore their other every day duties: education as well as business is forgotten.
This country is not only quite vulnerable to enemy intervenes, but is also hectically busy with its surviving government, which promises to fight against terrorists, piracy and the human trafficking. At the same time it pretends to protect its open borders from enemy invasions.
Anyhow the general report concerning the upcoming election says it needs special awareness for the finalization process of re-correcting the failed registration system, installed as a basis for Somaliland’s presidential elections being held on the 26th June 2010.

The leading party is nowadays omnipresent all over the regions, districts and cities, talking to people, showing its historic achievements towards stability, security, development and business growth of the country. The President nominated a committee which is responsible for the election campaign of the leading party announcing that it would be headed by Mr. Ahmed Yousuf Yasin. He confirmed personally all executive members of the party from city to district level. On the otherhand the Minister of Finance Mr. Awil Ali Duale declared recently Somaliland’s instable financial situation. The annual budget is hardly enough to cover costs for the country’s police, security and military alike. So the Minister of Finance informs people of the Sahil regions in particularly to observe carefully the upcoming election and asked them to vote for UDUB. In his eyes this party could prove its historic achievements and represents that specific clan the Vice President originates from.

The Chairman of the opposition party called UCID, Faisal Ali Warabe, nominates officially the parties campaign managers: there is Dr. Saleban Dahir, an intellectual from the Somaliland Canadian Diaspora, Mr. Muse Inji, the general secretary of Somaliland’s Journalist Association and other officers declared as being responsible for the party’s upcoming election management. Besides the opposition party called KULMIYE expresses also its willingness to lead the country.

Somaliland’s election needs consideration from its people, the international community, and concerned neighboring countries so that it will be able to stay a peaceful country ruled in a stable manner like Ethiopia.
